October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. That’s why Eastgate, CANSA and the Knitted Knockers Organisation are helping survivors of breast cancer feel more confident this month.
According to statistics, 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Many of these women will have to undergo a mastectomy as part of their treatment. Sadly, those who cannot afford private health care will often not be able to receive reconstruction surgery, leaving them feeling self-conscious and grappling with body dysmorphia.
In an effort to support women battling breast cancer and those who have survived it, Eastgate presents the Knitted Knockers event. Coming to you at the Krispy Kreme Court this October, Knitted Knockers will provide shoppers with the opportunity to show their solidarity and give back to a worthy cause.
Knitted Knockers are hand knitted breast prostheses for women who have undergone mastectomies or similar breast procedures. They are softer and lighter than any other prosthesis that is available, much more comfortable to wear, and can be placed in any regular bra. The knitted fabric breathes and prevents the heat rash and discomfort experienced by many women that wear the silicone breast prostheses.
Eastgate invites you to come and knit or crochet a pair of knitted knockers, or donate money towards reaching their goal of giving 1, 000 pairs of knitted breast prosthetics to state patients in need. So, please come out and show your support!
Monday, 21 October 2019 – Sunday, 27 October 2019, between 09:00 – 15:00 daily.
Eastgate Shopping Centre, Krispy Kreme Court, Lower Level.
